2015 Garden Begins.

With the help of The Yates Garden Guide I have discovered that some of my veggie plants need to be planted now. 

So today I have planted peas, onions (red and white) and spinach. Last week I dug the garden and added some sheep pallets (stinky!!!).

Haven't had any lucky with spinach before so I gave my fingers crossed. 

The pea seeds got a bit wet when I left them outside last year, so I hope they grow. 

And the onions are planted a little deeper than the packet said (hmmm!). 

All should be up in 2 or 3 weeks I hope 😏. 

Sowing flower seeds

Today I planted some flower seeds (with help from a friend, who felt the need to be clean).

I used egmont seed's fusables, these are two types of seed that are fused together to make a little pellet that dissolves once watered. The ones I planted are petunias mixed with bacopa. It will be interesting to watch these grow.

I joined the road trip to Mitre10 Mega at Hornby. I spent a night learning how to cook (a steak salad) and how to plant (salad greens). I also bought a few things for the garden (oops). 

Ps I also ate a few little lemon meringue  pies - yum!

Ghosts in the Garden?

The exciting news this week is that my peas are starting to sprout.

And there have been ghosts in the garden. 

Phew! It's just the frost cloth. 

The Garden Continues...

This week my garden string was broken and something tried to dig up the beetroot and carrot row, argh!

On the plus side I planted some potatoes (ready for Christmas?, Jersey Benny),

One tomato,

And two capsicums. 

There also a few more additions some lettuce and leeks. 

And I think the grass is getting greener, hmmm (at least I hope it is). 

Weekend of Gardening

This weekend has been very productive. I have wed and fed the lawn (by watering it with "Weed and Feed"). An amazing container that put the spray into the water without the water going in the container, I have no idea how that works!

The before look of the lawn, I'm expecting big things! (Lots if grass and no weeds).

 

Box number 2 is ready to plant. 

So I plant some seeds this time the root vegetables - beet root, onions (not sure if they'll grow as book said it was too late but seed packet said ok) and some carrots. The carrots and beet root were on a tape - makes it lots easier to plant unless it windy. 

I must remember to put the rake the right way up next time or it could be dangerous. 

I also planted some parsley (this time in a pot).  These seeds were on a seed mat. 

The finished product at the end of the weekend. Hoping to have lots of little plants soon. 

Gardening starts today!

It's time to start planting some plants in the new vegetable garden.

So it's out with the Yates garden guide to check what to put in. 

With some brassicas (cabbages, cauliflower and broccoli) in already the first row of seeds is peas. Apparently peas take 7 to 10 days to come up and 12 to 16 weeks till they are ready to pick (Christmas?). I'll keep you posted. 

The new garden is lined with black polythene and contains a mixture of soil from the garden, compost, gypsum and some garden mix from South Hort (oops and some newspaper at the bottom to stop the weeds and a layer of pea straw part the way through - but no pea straw in the beds for the root vegetables as I don't think they will grow well through it).
